Stability AI releases StableAssets: localized generative textures for game engines

StableAssets is aimed at game developers and environment artists, offering texture generation that produces albedo, normal, roughness, and ambient occlusion maps in a single pass. Outputs are calibrated to common engine import settings to reduce manual tweaking.

Stability AI packaged SDKs and native plugins for Unity and Unreal, allowing artists to generate, preview, and iterate on textures inside engine editors. The tools support procedural tiling parameters, LOD-aware exports, and automatic naming conventions for asset pipelines.

The company emphasized on-prem and local runtime options for studios concerned about IP. StableAssets supports high-resolution outputs and includes a batching API for studios to generate texture sets at scale.

Artists who tested the beta praised the time savings for environment prototyping but noted that stylized and game-specific material nuance still benefits from human touch. Stability AI said future updates will add style-transfer presets tailored to popular game aesthetics.
