Stability AI releases StableLayout for generative UI compositions

Stability AI expanded its product suite with StableLayout, a model that generates structured UI mockups based on textual prompts and optional wireframe sketches. The model focuses on producing plausible component hierarchies and exportable layout descriptions instead of only pixel outputs.

StableLayout returns a JSON representation of suggested components, their bounding boxes, and recommended CSS-like style hints, enabling downstream tools to render editable prototypes. Stability AI said the model was trained on a mixture of synthetic UI data and licensed design examples to improve semantic understanding.

The company released a plugin ecosystem so vendors can integrate StableLayout outputs into existing design editors and code generators. Stability highlights collaboration-focused features: multi-user prompts, versioning for generated layouts, and a ‘design rationale’ field that logs model reasoning for auditability.

Observers caution that training data provenance will be critical, especially for commercial use, but many designers welcome a generative tool that prioritizes structure and handoff friendliness over purely photoreal outputs.
