Stability releases 'Stable Studio' for editable generative assets and layer-aware images

Stability AI launched Stable Studio, a generative engine that produces editable assets rather than flat raster images. Outputs can include layered PSDs with named layers, masks, and vector elements, allowing designers to make non-destructive edits after generation. The system also supports version histories and scripted layer operations for repetitive clean-up tasks.
Stable Studio incorporates a 'semantic layer' concept: generated layers come with metadata tags describing content (e.g., 'foreground subject', 'cta button', 'background pattern'), which can be used by automation to recompose variations or export component-based assets for design systems. The product targets creative teams that previously had to rebuild generator outputs from scratch for production use.
Practitioners praised Stable Studio's potential to cut rework but noted occasional layering inconsistencies requiring manual correction. Stability said it will continue improving layer semantics and adding export options for Figma, Illustrator, and After Effects. The company also emphasized open model access for community-driven enhancements to the layer taxonomy.
