StabilityAI released StableSketch, an open-source model that converts hand-drawn sketches and raster mockups into structured, editable vector files. The output includes semantic layer naming and suggested groupings to make post-processing straightforward for designers.

StableSketch is optimized for UI components and iconography, and includes a CLI and plugin architecture so tool vendors can integrate it into existing design workflows. Because it's open-source, the community is already contributing fine-tuned checkpoints for specific styles and icon sets.

Designers who tested StableSketch appreciated the time savings in turning whiteboard sketches into assets, but note that fine details and artistic nuances sometimes require manual cleanup. StabilityAI plans to expand training datasets to cover more stylistic variations.
