TypeFoundry Raises $12M to Build Adaptive Typography Engine for Responsive Design

TypeFoundry raised $12 million from FontWorks Capital and several angel investors in the design systems space. The company’s engine uses parametric type adjustments—tracking, weight, x-height—to automatically tune type across breakpoints, pixel densities, and accessibility settings.

Designers can plug the engine into CSS and native UI frameworks, binding typographic scales to layout constraints and user preferences. TypeFoundry also ships a visual studio for testing type behavior across contexts and a React-like API for runtime adjustments.

Founder and typographer Marco Varela said the funding will expand the catalog of licensed type families and improve the engine’s support for complex scripts. Early clients include a large fintech app and a streaming service that wants consistent legibility across living-room TVs to wearables.
