Unity partners with Stability AI to ship an in-editor asset generator
Gaming · 4 min read
The new Unity integration embeds Stability AI's image and 3D asset generation models directly into the Editor, letting developers create textures, PBR materials, and low-poly props via text prompts or by augmenting reference images. Assets can be generated with export presets that match common render pipelines.
Unity emphasized the tool's value for prototyping: artists can quickly iterate environment variants, spawn placeholder props for level-blocking, and generate mood-specific material packs without leaving the Editor. The workflow also supports seeding from camera snapshots of scenes to maintain cohesion.
Stability AI and Unity included usage controls and local caching to reduce costs and speed up iteration. Unity plans to include template packs for game jams and indie teams, along with recommended pipelines for normal maps and texture atlases.
