Unity ships GenAI Tools for 2D UI skinning and dialog generation
Gaming · 4 min read
Unity Technologies released GenAI Tools that assist game developers in creating UI skins and generating in-world dialog. The skinning feature analyzes existing art direction and suggests cohesive HUD variants, remapping assets to multiple resolutions and aspect ratios while respecting safe areas.
The dialog generator targets non-linear narrative needs, producing context-aware responses for NPCs and system messages with metadata for tone, suspicion of player actions, and localization tokens. Unity emphasized a pipeline that exports dialog as JSON for direct ingestion into dialogue systems like YarnSpinner and Ink.
Built-in controls allow developers to constrain creativity to rated content policies and to favor determinism for QA. Unity's Marketplace also includes third-party models optimized for specific genres such as RPGs and casual mobile games.
