Unity unveils Artisan: a model hub for game-ready 3D asset generation with LOD control
Gaming · 5 min read
Artisan provides a marketplace-style experience where artists can prompt asset generation—characters, props, or environment kitbashes—and receive complete asset packages with configurable LODs, normal maps, and occlusion baking suited to target platforms. Unity verifies assets against runtime performance metrics and tags them as console-ready or mobile-optimized.
The hub also supports a collaborative workflow where artists can seed collections, iterate on variations, and lock assets into versioned packages that sync with Unity Collaborate and Git-based workflows. Unity added a real-time previewer for checking draw calls and shader permutations.
Studios reported faster content pipelines and fewer manual optimizations, though technical artists emphasized the need for reproducible pipelines and predictable memory budgets. Unity committed to enhancing seed-based reproducibility and expanding certified shader support in future updates.
