Unreal Editor adds AI-driven level design tools to accelerate prototyping
Gaming · 6 min read
The new AI features in Unreal Editor help designers build playable levels quickly by generating layout drafts, suggesting asset placements, and proposing lighting setups tuned to gameplay requirements. Designers can input high-level constraints—level size, difficulty targets, thematic cues—and receive an editable scene as a starting point.
Generated scenes prioritize editability: objects are placed as distinct actors with metadata and behavior placeholders, allowing level designers to tweak AI choices or swap in higher-fidelity assets later. The tool also includes automatic navmesh updates and lightmap hints to accelerate testing.
Epic emphasizes that the system is a time-saver for prototyping and iterative playtesting, not a replacement for handcrafted final levels. The AI suggestions can be toggled or scoped to prevent workflow disruption, and teams can seed generators with studio art styles for consistent output.
