UX researcher salaries show a pronounced regional split — remote hubs rise in value

As remote hiring solidified in 2024–2026, compensation committees realigned pay bands to reflect talent clusters rather than corporate HQ. Cities like Austin, Lisbon, and Bogotá have emerged as higher-paying remote hubs for UX research, partly because companies recruiting through remote-first policies prefer to match local market rates to widen candidate pipelines.

Beyond geography, specialization drives pay. Researchers who can design and run model evaluation studies, adversarial testing for generative systems, or translate safety guidelines into testable protocols are in the top salary bracket. Interviewers now expect methodical design of data collection and clear artifact pipelines that feed ML evaluation metrics.

For individual researchers, the advice is to document measurable impact: how a study reduced model hallucinations, improved intent detection, or decreased unsafe outputs. Teams hiring researchers are placing more weight on cross-functional fluency — the ability to communicate results to engineers and product managers and to convert research findings into iteration priorities.
