UX Salaries Cross Six Figures in Major US Cities, New Recruiter Data Shows

Multiple recruiting firms and salary platforms are reporting that senior UX designers in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle are now frequently commanded six-figure base salaries, with total compensation often exceeding $150,000 when bonuses and equity are included. The shift accelerates a trend that began in 2023 as companies prioritized product-led growth and digital experience differentiation.

Hiring managers attribute the increase to a tighter supply of experienced designers who can combine user-centered research, interaction design, and technical fluency with AI tooling. Candidates who show a portfolio of measurable product improvements or experience working directly with ML teams are particularly in demand.

Smaller markets still lag but show signs of catch-up as remote-first companies broaden their hiring geographies. Recruiters say negotiation benchmarks have moved: firms that don't offer competitive salary bands and clear career ladders are losing candidates to startups and FAANG-adjacent companies.

Design leaders recommend transparency in compensation bands and more investment in midlevel talent development to bridge the pipeline gap. Many teams are also experimenting with hiring bonuses, accelerated promotion paths, and remote-location premiums to stay competitive.
