Valve reveals SteamDeck Pro and raises $150M to build handheld ecosystem

Valve today took the wraps off the SteamDeck Pro, a higher-performance handheld with a redesigned cooling system, improved haptics, and a new modular control layout. To support the launch, Valve announced a $150 million strategic funding pool to invest in partner studios, middleware, and a curated app store for handheld-optimized titles.

The Pro uses a custom AMD APU tuned for sustained thermals and introduces a dock with discrete GPU offload for higher-resolution TV play. Valve is also releasing new dev tooling to help studios scale assets for handheld constraints and to implement quick-resume and save-state features.

The accompanying fund will subsidize porting and optimization costs for developers, aiming to broaden the SteamDeck catalog with both indie and AAA titles. Valve positions the package as part device upgrade, part ecosystem bet to make portable PC gaming mainstream.
