Vision Pro OS 2.1 introduces mixed-window docking and universal pointer for AR apps

With Vision Pro OS 2.1, Apple is pushing the headset toward longer-session productivity by introducing docked mixed-reality windows that can snap to virtual surfaces and persist across sessions. Docking supports grouping windows, layered translucency, and priority hints that dictate render fidelity to preserve battery life.

A universal pointer model lets users interact with native VisionKit apps and scaled iPad/desktop ports using the same hand, eye, or external pointer inputs without context switching. Developers gain APIs to tune pointer affordances and focus rings for spatial UI controls, improving accessibility and precision in dense layouts.

The OS also updates frame scheduling and passthrough depth fidelity to reduce visual jitter when docking and re-positioning windows. Apple included new developer samples showing best practices for window-aware layout and mixed surface anchoring.
