VisionOS 2.1 preview adds shared spaces and persistent anchors for spatial collaboration

VisionOS 2.1 introduces shared spaces that persist across sessions, allowing teams to leave content anchored in a physical room for others to revisit. Persistent anchors store object placement, annotations, and state so users returning to a scene see the same spatial layout.

Apple added APIs for multiuser synchronization and conflict resolution, enabling simultaneous edits to virtual objects with low-latency merging. The update includes revamped hand gesture arbitration to reduce accidental object grabs in collaborative scenarios.

For designers, VisionOS 2.1 brings improved lighting probes and a layered compositor to help craft consistent visuals across users. Apple also promised better tooling in Xcode for simulating multiple concurrent users and profiling network latency impacts on shared spaces.
