VividGlass launches Spectra: a low-reflectance AR lens coating for outdoor usage
Tech · 3 min read
Spectra is a multilayer optical coating designed to mitigate glare and specular artifacts that plague AR overlays in bright environments. VividGlass claims the coating improves perceived contrast for heads-up content while preserving color fidelity.
The company ran pilots with two smartglasses OEMs and reported measurable improvements in overlay legibility and user satisfaction during outdoor trials. Spectra is engineered to be compatible with waveguide assemblies and traditional lens stacks.
With $6 million in seed funding, VividGlass will scale production, secure environmental testing certifications, and integrate the coating process into partner manufacturing lines. Investors include hardware-focused micro-VCs and strategic partners in the wearables supply chain.
Designers working on AR UX saw immediate benefits for outdoor use-cases like navigation and sports overlays. VividGlass plans to offer sample batches for optical engineers and partner with AR UX consultancies to define new best practices for outdoor AR experiences.
