VoltOS debuts modular laptop with swappable compute tiles for prosumers

VoltOS today unveiled its modular laptop, the VoltBook M1, which uses a standardized compute tile slot system allowing for fast upgrades to CPU, GPU, and AI accelerator modules. The chassis supports passive cooling for low-power tiles and an active cooling rail for high-performance compute modules.

The company says the tile standard will be open-sourced for third-party hardware partners and provides an SDK for thermal and power negotiation. The VoltBook M1 ships with a high-refresh color-accurate display and a hot-swappable SSD bay to emphasize repairability and longevity.

VoltOS plans a limited run this quarter and will offer trade-in credits for early adopters who upgrade tiles through its web portal. The product is pitched as an alternative to sealed ultrabooks, promising lower e-waste and a path to incremental performance upgrades rather than full device replacements.
