WhatsApp Encryption UX: A Technical and Usability Teardown After Multi-Device Sync

WhatsApp's move to multi-device end-to-end encryption created new synchronization challenges that surfaced in the UX. The platform implemented device linking codes, ephemeral session keys, and background sync queues to keep user experience seamless while preserving cryptographic guarantees.
