Zephyr Design Systems releases 'Adaptive Tokens' to automate cross-platform theming

Adaptive Tokens accepts a canonical token set and produces platform-optimized variants that respect platform constraints like iOS typography scales, Android sp densities, and web rem quantization. The system also predicts edge adjustments to preserve perceived weight and spacing across devices.

Integration plugins push derived tokens into popular design tools and generate platform-ready files for engineers. Teams can customize derivation rules and lock specific tokens to preserve brand-critical values while allowing others to adapt automatically.

Design ops leaders said the feature significantly reduced the time spent reconciling token inconsistencies across platforms. Some platform designers still requested finer manual overrides for platform-specific idioms, which Zephyr said would be added in future updates.
