Zephyr Systems Secures $120M to Build Edge GPUs for AR Glasses, Reveals Edge X1 Dev Kit
Tech · 6 min read
Zephyr Systems announced a $120 million Series C today focused on scaling production of its edge GPU silicon designed for head-worn AR devices. The round was led by Horizon Capital and includes strategic investments from several AR hardware OEMs.
At the same time, Zephyr launched the Edge X1 developer kit, a compact module that integrates their GPU, an AI co-processor for CV tasks, and a power-optimized runtime. The company emphasizes sustained performance at sub-5-watt thermal envelopes, aiming to enable richer AR overlays without offloading to the cloud.
Zephyr positions the kit as a bridge for ecosystem partners — content studios, UX agencies, and headset manufacturers — to optimize render pipelines and spatial UI frameworks. The company expects to ship initial dev kits to early partners by Q4 and begin ramping production next year.
