Zeplin adds AI-driven spec generation and contract-style design tokens

Zeplin now offers AI-driven spec generation that reads designs and produces clearer, contextualized specs—including edge-case behavior, breakpoints, and interaction notes. The system analyzes components for responsive rules and recommends explicit implementation contracts.

Zeplin's design tokens are now "contract-style": they include not only values but also allowed ranges, override policies, and platform mappings (web, iOS, Android). Engineers can import these contracts directly into build systems to enforce consistency.

The goal is to reduce miscommunication in handoffs by making implicit decisions explicit. Zeplin reports that beta testers saw fewer clarifying exchanges and faster ticket completion after enabling the new spec generator.
