Zeplin adds component-graph AI to auto-document and update design systems
Design ยท 4 min read
The component-graph AI extracts relationships between instances, variants, tokens, and props, producing visual graphs and natural-language summaries that explain a component's usage and constraints. When designers update a master component, Zeplin proposes updated documentation and highlights downstream files that could be affected.
The feature supports configurable governance: teams can require auto-generated docs to be reviewed before publication and attach release notes automatically. Zeplin also connects the graph to code references so developers can see where a component is implemented and any divergence between design and implementation.
Early users report reduced ramp-up time for new hires and fewer regressions caused by undocumented overrides and token mismatches. Zeplin plans to expand the AI to suggest refactors for overly complex components.
