Zeplin unveils AI SpecGen to turn prototypes into annotated code snippets

AI SpecGen analyzes prototype layers, component states, and tokens to produce a spec sheet including measurements, spacing, and accessibility annotations. It can also output framework-specific snippets—React with styled-components, SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose—paired with suggested tests and ARIA labels.

The tool includes a diff view so teams can see what changed between design iterations and automatically update the code snippets or mark breaking changes. Zeplin positioned SpecGen as a collaboration amplifier rather than a code replacement, focusing on consistency and developer speed.

SpecGen will be available to Zeplin Team and Enterprise customers and supports private-hosted model options for organizations that require on-prem inference. Zeplin plans to add plugin hooks so custom linters and code-style rules can be applied to generated snippets.
